Hearing Impaired Victims Injured in Olathe, Kansas Pedestrian Accident

in Auto Accidents, Pedestrian Accidents

Slow down. That’s the best advice we can give to motorists driving through areas with pedestrian crossings, especially if you’re in an area that has special crosswalks designated for hearing or sight impaired pedestrians. Take a situation that happened this week in the Kansas City metro area. Three hearing impaired victims were injured when they were hit by a car trying to cross a street in Olathe, Ks. Police say the driver didn’t see the pedestrians and they were not using a properly designated pedestrian crossing.

As experienced Kansas and Missouri Pedestrian Injury Attorneys, we deal with these cases on a day to day basis. Pedestrian accidents are unfortunately far too common in our good city. The causes for them range pretty drastically but one thing that can be for certain in any pedestrian accident is that no matter which party is at fault— someone wasn’t paying attention.

Pedestrians, should always use designated crosswalks that are clearly marked for motorists to see. The rules of the road say cars should always stop and wait for a pedestrian to cross but sadly this isn’t the case. Always look both ways and double check your self before crossing. That motorist may not be paying attention. If a crosswalk isn’t present, cross at the street corner.

Motorists should always be paying attention to the road no matter what. Put your cell phone away and stop messing with your radio. Unexpected things happen all the time and you need to be able to react if and when something happens.

If you or a loved one has been seriously injured in a pedestrian accident in Kansas or Missouri, you and your family may be entitled to compensation for your losses. Inattentive Driving May Cause Injury Accidents at Railroad Crossings in Kansas and Missouri

in Auto Accidents, Train Accident

At Kansas City Accident Injury Attorneys, we know things happen on the road while you’re driving that you can never predict and really maybe never plan for. Sometimes you just don’t know when or where your car is going to break down and it usually doesn’t happen in the most convenient of places. One of the worst places has to be on a train track. Yikes.

Last week, a car stalled on a railroad crossing near Miami in Broward County was hit by an approaching train injuring at least ten people aboard the train. The driver and passengers of the stalled car were able to get to safety, thankfully. Many people were injured and treated. Ten were taken to a nearby hospital for further evaluation. No injuries are expected to be life threatening.

Broward County deputies are investigating the crash, including trying to find out why the car stalled on the railroad track, causing the serious injury accident.

Our experienced Kansas City Personal Injury Attorneys want you to be safe while you’re out driving and one of the trickiest thing to do is cross a train track. Not all crossings have marked signals and crossing arms to let you know when a train is coming. That’s why it is important to:

  • STOP
  • LOOK
  • and LISTEN

Never try and beat a train across the track. Chances are you aren’t going to be able to judge the speed of the train. Those bad boys are moving a lot faster than you realize.Contact Kansas City Accident Injury Attorneys if you’ve been seriously injured in an accident in Kansas or Missouri. We have over 15 years of experience in Auto Accidents including Train Accidents in Kansas or Missouri. How To Avoid an Accident with A Train in Missouri

in Auto Accidents, Train Accident

Stop. Look.  Listen.  Ruled you learned in school when coming up to a railroad crossing.

Rules you should still follow as a driver of a motor vehicle before crossing the train tracks.  Just because the gates may not be down does not mean a train is not approaching.

Railroad crossing accidents happen for a number of reasons:

  • Including improper lights or warning signals
  • Improper sight lines preventing a driver from seeing an oncoming train
  • Improperly parked train near a crossing
  • Train engineer’s failure to sound the whistle or horn of the approaching train
  • Driver negligence of driving around the gates.

If you stop, look and listen no matter what you will help prevent an accident with a train.  Roll your window down if the weather is poor to listen for a train approaching.  Look both ways – trains can come from either direction.

Once you see and hear that the coast is clear, cautiously cross the tracks.  If your car ever gets stuck on the tracks, get out of the car, walk away and immediately  call 911.

As Kansas City experienced Auto Accident and Personal Injury Attorneys, we remind drivers that they should never try and beat a train. Trains are big and powerful and will most likely win in a collision.

The Kansas City Personal Injury Attorneys know that some accidents cannot be avoided and do happen. If you or someone you love has suffered a serious injury in an accident involving a train in Kansas or Missouri, you may be entitled to compensation for your losses. We want you to know your rights as a victim.

Beat the Heat: Boating and Swimming Safety Tips for Kansas and Missouri Lakes

in Safety Issues

Are you heading to the lake this weekend?  If so. the Missouri State Highway Patrol is urging everyone to stay cool and safe while relaxing on the lake and rivers during this brutal heat wave.  The patrol’s jurisdiction, which now includes the Water Patrol says there have already been fourteen deaths on the state’s waterways in the month of July, including nine drownings in one 7-day stretch.  According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, many of the fatal accident cases involved children and adults with a limited swimming ability and others who aren’t wearin lifejacket at all.

Our experienced Kansas City Accident Injury Attorneys using life jackets and other safety devices should be a regular part of being on the water.  But there are a number of other ways you can be safe and beat the heat, while still trying to enjoy your summer!

Dress appropriately for the weather.  During a heat wave, wear loose-fitting, light-colored, lightweight clothing.  Avoid dark colors as they absorb the sun’s rays.

Avoid strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day.  Take frequent breaks if you must work outdoors, and check on children and pets frequently to ensure they are suffering from the heat.

Stay hydrated. Carry water or juice with you and drink continuously even if you do not feel thirsty.  Avoid drinks with alcohol or caffeine, which dehydrate the body.

Above all– Wear plenty of sun screen!

Kansas and Missouri Theme Parks May Re-Think Ride Rules after Fatal Accident in NY

in Safety Issues

How often do you ride a roller coaster and even though you fit the specifications, you wonder if you should really be riding what could potentially be a dangerous ride.  Amusement park rides have certain restrictions.  Some are strict– some a little more lenient.  Some leave it to the rider to determine if they meet the criteria.  Take the case of an Iraq war veteran and double amputee, who was killed when he was fell from a the Ride of Steel, a 208-foot-tall roller coaster at the Darien Lake Theme Park Resort in New York .

As Kansas City Personal Injury Attorneys, we hope you practice safe and smart decisions when you are out enjoying the spring and days of summer either at Worlds of Fun or Oceans of Fun or wherever you are taking the family for a vacation.  For the most part, these rides are a “ride at your own risk” situation.  But don’t leave it to chance.  If you have a physical disability, make sure its not a situation that could cancel out the safety offered by the ride.

If you or someone you love has suffered a serious injury in a slip and fall accident in Kansas or Missouri, you may be entitled to compensation for your losses including medical bills, lost wages and legal fees.  Don’t face the insurance companies alone.  Contact Kansas City Accident Injury Attorneys.  With over 15 years of experience in Slip and Fall Accident cases we may be able to help your family.

But these aren’t they only dangers facing baseball fans at Major League stadiums around the country.  Recently, at the Ballpark in Arlington, Texas a 27 year-old man fell out of the stands while attempting to catch a ball being thrown to him by one of the players.  The accident happened on Thursday July 7, 2011 in the second inning of a game between the Texas Rangers and the Oakland Athletics.

Our experienced Slip and Fall Injury Lawyers know that baseball games should be a right to summer time fun.  For kids especially, baseball games can leave long lasting childhood memories. We are truly saddened by this tragic death and would like to extend our deepest sympathies to this man’s family– especially his young son, who was a witness to this most unfortunate accident.

Fireworks Explosion at Friends Apartment Costs Kansas City Victim His Hand

in Safety Issues

The 4th of July was a booming hit for many residents in Kansas and Missouri, and thankfully, most of us managed to escape incident free.  Unfortunately, this isn’t the case for all our our neighbors right here in Kansas City, where a man lost his hand in a fireworks accident when he tried to get a lit explosive out of an apartment before it went off.

The best thing to do in this situation is to take cover and let the fire work go off.  It is nearly impossible to tell what the time is going to be on a lit fuse and most of the time you only have a few seconds between the time it is lit and the time it goes off.  Even if you think it is a dud, give it time then pour water on it.

Our experienced Kansas City Personal Injury Attorneys want you to make holiday safety apart of your family’s celebrations, whether it be Halloween, Christmas, New Year’s or even next Fourth of July.

If you or a loved one has suffered a serious injury as a pedestrian in an auto accident in Kansas or Missouri, you may be entitled to compensation for your losses.  Contact Kansas City Accident Injury Attorneys to set up a free consultation to discuss your injury claim with one of our experienced Kansas City Personal Injury Lawyers.
