A man from Leavenworth, KS. died on Monday from injuries he suffered in a motorcycle accident on Friday in El Dorado, KS.  Mark Baker, age 54, was riding his 1995 Harley Davidson along the Kansas turnpike 32 miles northeast of Wichita when he lost control of his bike, went off the the road, rolled and crashed.  He suffered critical injuries and was immediately rushed to the hospital; Mr. Baker passed away on Monday.  Police are still investigating the crash.

Some motorcycle riders think that motorcyclists have different rules of the road than full size vehicles and so they fail to properly protect themselves under the misconception that nothing bad will happen to them.  Unfortunately, this mindset often leads to severe accidents and fatalities.  The fact is that riding a motorcycle is much more dangerous than driving a car because the rider of the bike is exposed to the elements and therefore much more vulnerable to injury.

If you’re planning on riding your motorcycle this summer, make sure you are wearing proper safety and protective equipment such as a helmet and goggles.  Head injuries are the leading injury from motorcycle accidents and while it may not seem cool, it’s the one thing between you and certain injury.
